Message from the director:
“Okay, so it turns out that making movies is hard, finishing them is harder and selling them is the hardest thing of all. We’re very happy (understatement of the year) to have a finished product and now we’re ready to do whatever it takes to get the film to as many people as possible. In order to do that we need your support and, believe me, that support is greatly appreciated (understatement of the decade).
Our aim right now is to sell 10 000 Unhinged DVDs. For a locally produced, independent documentary, this is an ambitious goal, though we believe in our product and are counting on you to help make it a reality.
The easiest way to get hold of it is at Look & Listen stores. If you go into one of their branches and they are out of stock, please do order one from them and make the effort to go back and get it. It will be through DVD sales that we are able to take the Unhinged movement forward and produce more exciting South African content, which is exactly what we want to do.”

Surviving Jo’burg is an honest, quirky and sometimes frenzied documentary about Johannesburg, South Africa’s biggest city and the world’s gateway to Southern Africa. With rapid narrative, dry humour, trivial factoids, insightful observations and a highly enjoyable soundtrack, the film tells a slice-of-city-life story. It’s a personal video snapshot of today’s city, providing a unique opportunity for viewers to get a glimpse inside a place that the world has a very fuzzy sense of.
